Welcome to the G.V. Black District Dental Society!

The G. V. Black District Dental Society is a component (local dental society) of the Illinois State Dental Society and American Dental Association and has been serving the profession of dentistry since 1929.

The Society was named in honor of Dr. Greene Vardiman Black, who was born in 1836 in central Illinois and is known as "one of the founders of modern dentistry". Today, the Society has 155 members who are located in Sangamon, Logan, Menard, Cass, Morgan, Scott and Montgomery counties and a portion of Macoupin County within Illinois. Members includes general practitioners as well as dental specialists.

ISDS Foundation Community Grant Applications Being Accepted

To be eligible for funding consideration, all applications must be endorsed by an ISDS component dental society.

The ISDSF distributes several thousand dollars each year in various amounts to applicants residing in the State of Illinois and to such projects that benefit the people of Illinois. Priority is given to proposals with measurable improvement goals, strong community support for the project, and innovation. 

Funding requested for each applicant may not exceed $10,000. 

Applications must be postmarked no later than May 28th.

Examples of qualified oral health projects supported by ISDSF include, but are not limited to:

  • Increasing access to care for low-income families, especially those with children
  • Increasing access to care for the elderly residents of Illinois
  • Assistance in procurement of dental supplies or dental equipment for dental providers servicing low-income areas of Illinois
  • Support of oral health education programs, especially in low-income designated schools
  • Support of emergency dental care for people who are disadvantaged with no access to care
