Thank you to our members for playing a critical role in passing this very important piece of legislation.

An Illinois State Dental Society initiative requiring health insurance companies to cover services for children with cranial facial anomalies was signed into law by Governor Pritzker on Friday, May 13, 2022. Specifically, health insurance companies will be required to provide coverage for the medically necessary care and treatment of cleft lip and palate for children under 19.

At the request of the Illinois Department of Insurance, the effective date is set for January 1, 2024, to give the industry time to implement the new requirements into their coverage plans. This legislation is now Public Act 102-768.
